Given the wide array of procedures performed at a dental clinic, there is nothing to be surprised by the different equipment you’ll find in your dentist’s room. If you keep up with your scheduled dental appointments, you might be familiar with some of the equipment, and chances are you are curious too!

Dental experts from Cozy Cabin Dental located at West Jordan in Utah share insights on the different dental equipment that helps them maintain your oral health.

What Are the Different Dental Equipment?

Below are some of the different equipment that your dentist uses on you.

Intra-Oral Camera

No matter how wide you open your mouth, there are times when the dentist cannot see what they would like to see with a regular dental mirror. Intra-oral cameras are an excellent dental innovation that allows your dentist to have a close-up view of your mouth.

This camera takes videos and still images of your mouth and helps diagnose lesions, hidden cavities, plaque, and other oral conditions.

Digital X-Rays

Also known as digital dental radiographs, digital x-rays allow your dentist to look at not just your teeth but also your jaws, bones, head, salivary glands, and more. They produce superior-quality images that can be viewed on a computer screen.

They help spot undetected gingivitis, structural abnormalities, tumors, bone loss, etc. The x-ray exposure is significantly lower making it a safe diagnostic tool.

Velscope is a new dental technology that uses natural tissue fluorescence to detect oral abnormalities. It emits a safe blue light in the oral cavities through an optical filter. The fluorophores in your mouth react to this light and this allows the dentist to check for cellular and structural changes in the tissues. This is also a primary oral cancer-screening tool.

According to studies, millions around the world experience oral conditions including caries. Asymptomatic cavities may remain undetected for long periods and can cause severe infection. DIAGNOdent uses laser fluorescence to detect cavities within the tooth structures that cannot be identified using x-rays.

It disseminates laser light onto the oral structures and looks for fluorescence which is proportional to the degree of demineralization, lesions, occlusal decay, and other such conditions.

Familiarizing yourself with different dental equipment in a dental clinic is a great way to reduce the anxiety that you might have on the dental chair.
